MEDICAL ERROR STRATEGIES COURSE

DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES

  Completion of the two-hour medical errors reduction course (mandated by Florida Statute 456.013[7]) will provide each participant with the ability to implement root cause analysis for problem solving to determine effective prevention strategies for decreasing medical errors, increasing prevention strategies for improved patient safety in the healthcare system.

Objectives:

·        Identify medical system factors impacting patient safety in the delivery of healthcare,

·        Participate in root cause analysis problem solving,

·        Reduce medical errors by improved documentation and communication skills,

·        Develop policies/protocols to prevent errors with administration of pharmacologicals,

·        Implement medical error prevention strategies for system change,

·        Examine your role to improve patient safety through practice guidelines,

·        Recognize how Six Sigma approach to healthcare can reduce medical errors
