MEDICAL ERROR COURSE MEETS FLORIDA STATUTE 456.013(7) REQUIRING COMPLETION BY HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS PRIOR TO LICENSING OR RELICENSING IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO COMPLETE A 2-HOUR PREVENTION OF MEDICAL ERRORS COURSE EACH LICENSING PERIOD.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable by the Florida Board of Nursing Home Administrators.

OBJECTIVES

Completion of the two-hour medical errors reduction course (mandated by Florida Statute 456.013[7]) will provide each participant with the ability to implement root cause analysis for problem solving to determine effective prevention strategies for decreasing medical errors, increasing prevention strategies for improved patient safety in the healthcare system.

At the conclusion, the participant should be able to:
1) IDENTIFY medical system factors impacting patient safety in the delivery of healthcare,
2) PARTICIPATE in root cause analysis problem solving,
3) REDUCE medical errors by improved documentation and communication skills,
4) DEVELOP policies/protocols to prevent errors with administration of pharmacologicals,
5) IMPLEMENT medical error prevention strategies for system change,
6) EXAMINE your role to improve patient safety through practice guidelines,
7) RECOGNIZE how Six Sigma approach to healthcare can reduce medical errors.

HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

For this CME program, your computer should be Windows XP, Windows 98, Windows NT or Windows 2000 compatible. If you are using a modem to connect to the internet, you will need a modem speed of at least 56k.

Course is provided as text with post-test. Expected time to complete is 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

- Read the home study.

- Print and complete the test questions and enter the answers on the final test sheet.

- Enclose check for $60.00 made payable to the Medical Educational Council of Pensacola, or enter your credit card information and submit.

- If you are paying by check, mail the answer sheet, evaluation and check to the Medical Educational Council of Pensacola, 8880 University Pkwy, Suite C, Pensacola, Florida 32514.

- Test will be graded and reviewed for you.

- 70% is a passing score.

- Receive Certificate of Completion for your records. KEEP this with your other continuing education records.
