The Medical Educational Council of Pensacola is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor CME for physicians. MECOP is affiliated with Sacred Heart Health System and FSU College of Medicine. Visit the American Medical Association to get national information concerning medical education and much more.
As a continuing medical education program accredited through the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, the Medical Educational Council Of Pensacola’s purpose is to contribute to improvement in the professional practice of physicians through its CME activities, designed to address identified gaps in professional knowledge, skills, attitudes, and performance. MECOP’s goal is to promote the delivery of quality holistic, compassionate, evidence-based health care in the communities served by CME activity participants. The content of MECOP’s CME activities is developed based on local, regional, and/or national needs assessments that consider the scope of practice of targeted physicians. MECOP’s target audience is primarily physicians of all specialties practicing in Northwest Florida and South Alabama. Activities focus on the needs of MECOP’s affiliate organizations, Sacred Heart Hospital and Florida State University College of Medicine, including its regional campuses. Other physician groups may participate in MECOP-sponsored CME activities when needs are aligned with MECOP’s purpose and expectations. Types of CME activities include, but are not limited to, live presentations (design based on needs of the audience), internet-based self-study, and enduring materials. Additional methods will be developed based on the identification of barriers to learning, resources, and interest in applying new approaches or technologies. Outcomes of CME activities through the MECOP program will enhance the competence and performance of participating physicians, thus improving patient outcomes. With its affiliate organizations, the MECOP program will actively collaborate in addressing these institutions’ needs for continuous quality improvement.
